What is the Indiana Minority Supplier Development Council (IMSDC)? |
| The IMSDC is a not-for-profit membership organization comprised of major corporations throughout Indiana. Created in 1976, this organization is dedicated to increasing the purchasing activity between these major corporations and minority business enterprises. The IMSDC is one of 39 Affiliated Councils of the National Minority Supplier Development Council. Links to the NMSDC and the 38 Affiliated Councils are available from this website. |

How does a company join the IMSDC? |
The majority corporation completes a membership application form, pays annual dues to the IMSDC, and the company and commits to the following:
- Attend meetings of the IMSDC on a regular basis.
- Participate in the activities of the IMSDC, including participation on standing committees.
- Submit purchasing activity reports with minority-owned firms.
- Designate in writing a representative who may act for and on behalf of the corporate member in connection with the IMSDC.

What is a minority business enterprise (MBE)? |
| An MBE is a for-profit enterprise, regardless of size, physically located in the United States, which is owned, operated, and controlled by minority group members. Minority group members are U.S. citizens who are African-American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian-Pacific American, and Asian-Indian American. Ownership by minority individuals means the business is at least 51% owned by minority individual(s). The minority group owner must control the management and daily business operations. |

Does the IMSDC certify women-owned businesses? |
| The IMSDC certifies only ethnic minority-owned businesses. Certification of women-owned business in Indiana, is provided by the Division of Equal Opportunity, City of Indianapolis or the Department of Administration, State of Indiana or the National Association of Women Business Owners. |

Does the IMSDC assist individuals in starting their business? |
| The IMSDC works with established businesses to help them expand business opportunities in the community. There are other agencies and organizations which are very helpful in business startup, business planning, etc. Please see our links page for a listing of these organizations and agencies. |

What is the value of an IMSDC certification? |
| Our MBE certification process is designed to assure that the business is owned, operated and controlled by minorities: Asian, Black, Hispanic and/or Native Americans. |
